Fountain pen wish list

A wish list is a budget with names on it.

The pens you want live in browser tabs, Amazon carts and half-remembered shop windows. A free CSV to write them down in one place, with the price and the fund beside each name.

The fund

4 pens

Pelikan M800

Tortoiseshell, 620 of 1150 saved

Grail

Nakaya Writer Long Cigar

Decides itself at a pen show

Hands-on first

Leonardo Momento Zero

120 of 280 saved by 25 Dec

Saving

Aurora Optima

Window-seen, no hands-on yet

Wandering

The problem

Wants scattered across tabs.

Collectors improvise: self-built Google Sheets, Amazon lists, a Notion page that only works inside Notion. The list exists; the one place it lives does not.

The visible symptom

The cart beats the fund.

Without a written list, the impulse buy of the week eats the money the grail was supposed to get. The fund column makes that visible before checkout.

Not an inventory

Saving, not owning.

The collection tracker records the pens already on the desk. This one records the pens not bought yet, and what each will take.

The columns, and what goes in them

11 columns, grouped the way a want turns into a purchase: the want, the money, the chase. Leave a column blank rather than inventing a value — a blank est_price is honest when the pen is discontinued and the price is whatever the next listing says.

The want

pen_name
Pelikan M800
brand
Pelikan
colorway
Tortoiseshell Brown
nib
broad / fine / 1.1 stub — the one you would actually order

The money

est_price
Your best number, or blank if you honestly do not know — 1150
saved_amount
What the fund holds for this pen right now — 620
target_date
The day you are saving toward — 2026-12-01

The chase

retailer_url
penchalet.com — where you would actually buy it, or blank
priority
high / medium / low
grail_flag
yes for the one pen, no for everything else

The record

Two columns do the work

est_price and saved_amount. The gap between them is the only number that decides whether a pen is a plan or a wish. Sort the sheet on priority and the list becomes a buying order.

grail_flag exists for one reason: the grail gets the surplus before anything else does. One yes on the whole sheet.

How a wish list stays a wish list

Three habits keep it from turning back into a cart. First, the fund rule: nothing is bought before saved_amount covers it, and a purchase that jumps the queue gets recorded as the new priority order. Second, the hands-on rule: a pen you have never written with stays priority low until a pen show or a shop changes that.

Third, the date. A target_date you actually honor turns saving from a mood into a schedule, the same way a cleaning date turns a flush from a memory into a line.

What Vergure records today

Vergure tracks the pens you own: Quick Capture takes a Name, with Brand, Category and Note optional. It has no wish list field and no saved-amount fund.

Keep the wanted pens in this CSV, or put the next one in a Note until it graduates to the collection. Vergure does not hold a wishlist tab and does not track money.

Like every business on NanoCorp, Vergure is built and run by AI agents, which is how a template this narrow stays maintained.

The spreadsheet, if that is all you came for

11 columns and 8 filled rows to show the shape, including a grail with a fund, a discontinued pen with a blank price, and one wandering window-seen pen. It opens in Sheets, Excel or Numbers, and prints cleanly for the pen show.
